Sample a few attractions of the Hinterlands

Do you have a favourite Camelot memory? Please send it to us so we can share it with others

An unforgettable Xmas break

We had arranged to be picked up from Coomera Station as we had flown in from Singapore and didn't want to hire a car on the first day. Janice collected us and after a short trip up the mountain we arrived at Camelot and relaxed in our beautiful cottage, enjoying the complimentary fizz in our spa bath.

With a hire car delivered, day two was spent touring the mountain's wineries with the cheese factory a big hit with us (cheese is so expensive in Singapore). A light evening meal in our cottage and early to bed as Daniel had planned a special secret event for day three.

Day three and we found ourselves down at Tweed for a parallel Tandem Skydive, and I couldn't believe my eyes as I floated down, when Daniel rolled out a banner on the sand "Serene will you marry me?". With the video cameras still rolling Daniel went down on his knees and asked me to marry him and I said yes - WOW. What a start to great week on the Mountain!

We have updated the photo with our recent wedding in Singapore and attached a link to our YouTube Skydive Proposal!

Recommended Romantic Getaway...

  •  Tamborine Mountain for the perfect ambience and peaceful relaxation away from the busy coastal strip (yet close enough for shopping)
  •  Many delightful, almost quaint mountain attractions and culinary tastes to be savoured (wine, liqueurs, dining, cheese, beer, fudge, coffee, chocolate to name just a few)
  •  Camelot of course... we asked... Janice & Peter delivered

Waterfalls to compete with Europes finest!

We 'dropped in' from Europe to escape the winter brutality going on in the UK and Holland only to find the Queensland wet season in its full glory. Nevermind, we love bush walking and the South end of Mt Tamborine gives easy access to Springbrook and Lamington while we could still enjoy the quality restaurants and wide variety of attractions on Mount Tamborine, not found in such a cluster, elsewhere in the Hinterland. We love indulgence and romantic getaways, and Mt Tamborine offers the perfect environment for breaks and escapes, with Camelot Cottages our selection for first class accommodation for couples.

Purlingbrook Falls, Natural Bridge and Binna Burra offer easy walks and some great photo opportunities with the waterfalls in full flow, yet the huge spa baths at Camelot provided the perfect end to each day.

Be sure not to miss the great food and dining at Songbirds, Liquid Amber and The Kitchen Table - all first class and the sticky toffee wattle liqueur... mmm!

We will return!

- Samantha & Roderick, London

Camelot's Ideal Location

Camelot cottages are at the very centre of the mountain plateau almost equidistant between the three villages on Tamborine Mountain. The renowned 'Hang Glider' lookout is almost opposite our property and all the mountain's attractions are within a very short distance. The mountain used to be famous just for 'The Gallery Walk', now a plethora of coffee and trinket shops, to attract day trippers from the coast. Fortunately this has now been surpassed by a proliferation of quality wineries, distillery, arts and crafts, antique shops, top class restaurants and activity centres (e.g. world's largest glow worm colony),located well away from the day to day coach traffic. Come and explore - you will be surprised by what you will find!

The big five attractions:

The Distillery

With well over 100 awards won nationally and internationally for their high quality Liqueurs, Schnapps, Eau De Vie and Vodka - operating from Australia's smallest Pot Still Distillery. Nostrovia!

The Skywalk

Offering a spectacular elevated bridge which enters into the upper and middle canopies of the lush rainforest. The highlight is the freestanding Rainforest Cantilever soaring 30m above Cedar Creek with magnificent views across the valley and rainforest below.

Mount Tamborine Brewery and Cheese Factory

Offering award winning cheese, beautiful craft beers set in a fantastic beer garden and offering mouth watering food there is something here for everyone. See how the beer and cheese is made, fresh on-site!

The National Park Walks

6 superb rainforest walks ranging from a 30 minute 1.5 km round trip to Curtis Falls, up to 4.5km circuits taking around 90 minutes. For the more enthusiastic Lamington is only 35 minutes away and has many varied half and full day walks.

Gallery Walk

Offers 'shopaholics' the opportunity to wile away a morning meandering from door to door. The walk is only open from 10am to 4pm with the exception of Georges Paragon Seafood restaurant, open on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Cedar Creek Falls track

900m return to lookout, 900m return to the rock pools (Allow 20-30 minutes) Easy grade. Access to this visitor area is via Cedar Creek Road. The track to the lookout is suitable for strollers and assisted wheelchair access. The lookout offers views of waterfalls, cascades and rock pools. The section from the lookout to the rock pools is not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. For your safety, access is not permitted to some of the rock pools and parts of the gorge, as indicated by signs on site. Near the start of the track are two picnic areas, with tables and wheelchair-accessible toilets, located in large, open, grassy areas surrounded by tall eucalypt forest.

Palm Grove Rainforest Circuit

2.6km circuit (Allow 1 hour) Easy grade. Piccabeen palm groves and rainforest with emergent strangler figs and distinctively buttressed yellow carabeens feature on this walk. Palm Grove Avenue is the main access point and carpark for this track. Parking for buses and caravans is not available.

The Jenyns Falls circuit

Branched off the Palm Grove circuit, is currently closed as it is considered unsafe. (It is not marked on the map).

Curtis Falls, Joalah section

1.5km return ( Allow 30 minutes) Moderate grade. Joalah is an Aboriginal word meaning "haunt of the lyrebird". The loud calls of the male Albert's lyrebird can be heard during winter. The track starts from the Dapsang Drive carpark. It is also possible to start at the shops on Eagle Heights Road, adding an extra 800m return to the walk.
On this track you will walk through rainforest and descend steep stairs to a large pool at the base of Curtis Falls. There is an impressive view of the falls and surrounding columnar basalt rockface. Swimming is prohibited at the falls. A restricted access area below Curtis Falls protects an important glow-worm colony. The track continues from the falls, along a piccabeen palm-fringed creek to a giant strangler fig. Beyond this strangler fig, the lower Joalah track is closed for your safety due to rockfalls.

Sandy Creek Circuit, The Knoll section

2.6km circuit (Allow 1 hour) Easy grade. Scenic views, rainforest with tall trees emerging above the surrounding canopy, piccabeen groves, transition forest with large flooded gums and open forest feature on this walk. Please remain on the designated track, as there are steep cliff edges. Supervise children carefully. There is a branch track to Cameron Falls Lookout.
Access to the start of this walk is via Main Street, North Tamborine and Knoll Road. The parking area is very small and unsuitable for large buses.

There is a picnic area near the start of the walk, in tall, open forest, with a large shelter shed and picnic table. From the northern edge of the picnic area you can enjoy views to Flinders Peak and Brisbane.

Witches Falls Circuit

3.1km return (Allow 1 hour) Moderate grade. This track zigzags down the steep mountainside through open forest with banksia trees and into rainforest with huge strangler figs. You will pass seasonal lagoons surrounded by piccabeen palm groves and rainforest before you reach Witches Falls. After heavy rain the lagoons fill with water and come to life with many species of insects and frogs. The track returns through rainforest and behind the cemetery. The falls only flow after recent rain and can be viewed via a 200m detour from the circuit to a lookout platform.
The Witches Falls Circuit starts from the picnic area on Main Western Road. The grassy areas have electric barbecues, picnic tables and toilets, and are surrounded by tall eucalypts.

Purity, Passion & Pleasure

Purity

The first change you will notice is the clean cool and pure mountain air and Tamborine Mountain offers a superb micro climate away from the heat of the coast. In addition to our own flora, fauna and wildlife haven in our beautiful forests and national parks, we have close links to Springbrook, Natural Bridge and Lamington with the dense rainforest areas of Binna Burra and O'reilly's plateau only a short drive away. We CARE about the environment and Camelot is one of only three accommodation properties on the mountain that takes natural rain or water from one of the mountain's underground basalt reservoirs (ADW standard) and pass it through sediment filters, carbon filters and ultra violet light before using it. YOU GET a very eco-refined water whether you want to bottle it, drink it or simply bathe in it!

Passion

We are passionate about your mountain experience and will guide and suggest to you the very best products, services and experiences on the mountain. Many of the business owners have developed a passion to achieve excellence in their offered tourism field and awards are regularly won. In inviting you to share in these pleasures and experiences we hope you will become passionate about our mountain and tread lightly and leave no footprints to show where you have been.

Your pleasure is our business!
